Penstemon digitalis (tall white beardtongue)

This is one of our most common and elegant spring natives. From a low rosette of evergreen leaves, a 3' flower stalk shoots up in May. The white flowers last several weeks and are followed by an attractive seed pod that can persist into the winter. Tall white beardtongue takes full sun or part shade, and can handle a variety of soil conditions. Deer do not eat it.
