Panicum virgatum (switchgrass)

This 4' tall, clumping prairie grass spreads by rhizomes and seed. A great substitute for non-native large, decorative grasses, or for mixing into a meadow planting. Its airy pink blooms are lovely in late summer, especially when massed. Switchgrass does well in full sun and dry, poor soil. In soil that is rich or moist, it will grow too tall and flop over.
