Yes! There are really cactus native to the Northeast. This low-growing native has huge yellow-and red flowers in June that are pollinator magnets. True to its name, the whole plant is spiny and must be handled with care. It prefers full sun and average to dry soil, likes sandy, rocky and shallow soil, and needs a well-drained spot so it doesn't rot in winter. The plant grows up to one foot tall and will spread sideways over time, rooting itself as it goes. We sell these bare root. Half-bury the pad in the ground and it will root with no special care needed - but handle with tongs!
