Hypericum ascyron (great St. John's wort)

Great St John’s wort is most common in the Midwest but its native range extends into the Northeast. It is a six foot herbaceous perennial with large golden flowers in summer that attract bumblebees and other bees. Its native habitat is woodland stream banks and it prefers moist soil in sun or partial shade. Mammals do not like the taste of its foliage.
