This species is classified in a different genus from other goldenrods and looks quite different, with narrow leaves and flat-topped flower heads. It thrives in partial as well as full sun and is a good choice for a woodland edge meadow. Flat top goldenrod grows to 3 feet and blooms in September. It prefers a moist situation but can thrive with medium water. Although not as aggressive as many goldenrods, it does spread by underground rhizomes over time.
