Carex bicknelli (Bicknell's sedge)

This is a tall sedge that prefers sunny conditions on the dry side. It is most abundant in the Great Plains though native to the Northeast as well. Leaves grow 2 feet high and flower stalks to 3 feet. The green flowers bloom in spring and are followed by brown seed heads that make good food for birds.
