Anise hyssop is a native neighbor from the northern Great Plains. Easy to grow, aromatic (the leaves smell like licorice), colorful, long-blooming, drought resistant, deer resistant and adored by nectar-seeking insects. You may even catch a bumble bee or two sleeping on the flowers in the early morning! This is a short-lived perennial that lasts 2 to 3 years but reseeds freely.
